Weeks 1 and 1 in Home Weekend Games

September 30The Weeks Major Midgets hosted the Cape Breton Unionized Tradesmen for two home games this weekend and left with a win apiece.  Mason Hawley opened the scoring in Game 1 short-handed with assists to Connor MacLeod and Justin Hardie at the 13:45 mark of the first period.  Carson Lanceleve banked a pass from Callum Bouma and Hunter Martin off the Tradesmen goalie and doubled the Weeks’ lead to 2 early in the second period.  The third period remained scoreless as both teams worked to find the back of the net.  Andrew MacLeod stood on his head and recorded his second shutout of the season, denying the Cape Breton team 21 times.  Colin MacGillivray left with the hard hat for an outstanding defensive game.

October 1Sunday saw the Weeks stage a strong effort but falling short in the third as they took a 5-3 loss.  The Tradesmen struck first with just under 5 minutes left in the third, but Ben Williams tied it unassisted with just over a minute to go.  Cape Breton hammered two more in the second period, then twice more early in the third.  The Weeks boys responded with a strong effort as Marc Aucoin recorded his first MMHL goal assisted by Lucas Fabijancic and Ben Fraser, followed four minutes later by Callum Bouma finding the back of the net with the help of Fabijancic and Williams.  Ben Gibbon guarded the net against 26 of the 31 shots, and was instrumental in the Weeks having a strong third period.  Weeks host the Dartmouth Steele Subaru at home at 6:30pm on Saturday, and travel to Halifax to take on the Macs this Sunday at 12:30
