WEEKS SWEEP SOUTH SHORE

October 14 & 15Bridgewater
The Weeks Major Midgets spent a four point weekend in Bridgewater when they handed the UPS South Shore Mustangs two back to baclk losses.

Saturday saw the Weeks blank the Mustangs 3-0 in evening play. Rowan Sears put the Weeks on the board around the 6 minute mark of the first when he tucked a pass from Ryan MacLennan and Oliver Schnare past the Mustangs' net minder. With a 4 minute power play to end the second period, Carson Lanceleve sniped a tally with Colin MacGillivray and Callum Bouma assisting, then yanked the goalie's back door open and slid the puck to Blake Kontuk who buried it in the net to bring the lead to 3. The third period was scoreless. Mason Hawley proved he's more than just a prolific skater when he took it upon himself to inspect the integrity of the ice with his face when exiting the penalty box with his yard sale finds.  Andrew MacLeod was flawless in nets and recorded his third NSMMHL shutout of the season when he kept 21 shots out of harm's way.  Wayne Denny out-worked every Mustang every shift and wore the hard hat back to the hotel for his efforts.

The weeks overpowered the Mustangs on Sunday and left with a 5-2 victory.  Weeks captain Carson Lanceleve opened the scoring early in the first with a great set-up from Hunter Martin and Rowan Sears, then doubled the lead by nailing another Sears pass to the back of the net. Marc Aucoin converted a pass from Ben Fraser into a missile aimed at the net that Ben Williams tipped to add the third goal to the Weeks' side of the scoreboard. Ryan MacLennan closed out the first by rifling a pass from the blue line with the help of Martin and Lanceleve in the top shelf of the Mustangs' net, giving the Weeks a 4-0 lead going into the second. The Mustangs got on the board in the second and with just over a minute left in the third added their second to bring the game within reach. But Callum Bouma sent the puck on a coast to coast tour of the ice surface and ensured the Weeks' victory with just seconds left in the game. Ben Gibbons, despite an early morning return from traveling with the Truro Jr. A Bearcats, stood on his head and stopped 39 shots to give the Weeks the win and earned the hard hat for the bus ride home.

The Weeks will host the Valley Wildcats at home on Saturday, October 21 at 7:30pm, then the Halifax Macs on Sunday, October 22 at noon.
