Weeks Major Midgets have 2 alumni sign in the QMJHL

2018-09-05

Weeks Alumni Kevin Mason and Andrew MacLeod sign in the QMJHL!

Kevin Mason, who spent half of the 2017-18 season in the MHL with the Pictou County Crushers (27GP-8G-5A) before being called up to the Saint John Sea Dogs (25GP-2G-3A), has officially signed to play for the Sea Dogs for 2018-2019.  Kevin played for the Weeks Major Midgets for 2 seasons between 2015-2017.  As a rookie in the NSMMHL, Kevin found his niche as a big right winger with an elite shot.  In the 2015-16 season Kevin scored 15 goals and 11 assists in 35 league games.  Following that season Kevin was drafted in June by the Sea Dogs in the QMJHL Entry Draft and was a territorial draft pick of the Crushers.  After attending training camp the following August, Kevin was sent home to develop at the Major Midget level.  That season he played his part on the highest scoring line in Major Midget, with NSMMHL MVP G Blackmore and brother Jaden Mason.  The line stayed together for much of the 2017-18 season, all 3 garnering attention from QMJHL clubs.  G Blackmore was eventually signed as a free agent by the Moncton Wildcats, but the ‘Cats weren’t done there as they eventually drafted Jaden in June of 2017.  In the 2017 NSMMHL season, Kevin played in 35 games, accumulating 29 goals and 33 assists.  During the Weeks playoff run (which included a reverse sweep of the Cole Harbour Wolfpack), Mason had 9 goals and 13 assists in 11 games.

Andrew MacLeod has officially signed with Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL.  The 2018 Free Agent, who was called up to join the team at the Memorial Cup in Regina last season, has earned an official spot on the roster for the upcoming season.  Andrew played a full major midget career of three years with the Weeks, going undrafted in the QMJHL during that span.  Andrew was however an 8th round draft pick of the Crushers in 2017.  In his final year of Major Midget, Andrew earned 10 of the Weeks 11 wins on the season.  He finished the 2017-18 season with a 10-11 record, a 2.69 G.A.A and a .930 Save Percentage.  This earned Andrew 1st team all star goaltender at the 2018 NSMMHL awards banquet.  Andrew, after having been signed by Bathurst earlier in the season, was called up to the QMJHL club for their run to the Memorial Cup.  Andrew joined the Titan in Regina and participated in practices, but did not see any game action.

Note: Weeks alumni Ben Higgins will also start the season as a member of the 2019 Memorial Cup hosts, Halifax Mooseheads.

The Weeks would like to congratulate both Kevin and Andrew on their success and wish the best of luck this season in the Q!
